Waste Management GM speaks on their legality

The General Manager of the Freetown Waste Management Company, Mr. Parker has disclosed to this reporter in an exclusive interview that they are solely responsible to take care of liquid waste in the country.

Mr. Parker was responding to questions as to who is actually responsible to take care of the solid and liquid waste management apart from the Freetown Waste Management Company.

Following information that a consultant, Mr. Hill, is going to take over the liquid waste component of the waste management campaign with a company called SPASCO, Mr. Parker said they are the only authorized waste management company established with a Statutory Instrument Volume cxxxv. No 61 dated November 11, 2008 No 1.

He cited: “The Freetown Waste Management Company assumed its regulations in 2004”, adding Paragraph 2 in the gazette states: “where for any reasonable course a local council is unable to assume any function(s) within the period set out in the schedule, it shall inform the Minister of Local Government, who shall after consulting the ministry, Government, Department or Agencies and the Local Council concerned extend the time etc”.

Mr. Parker said, “In this case the FWMC under the Freetown City Council has not in any case proven to be inconsistent in carrying out its function well”.
