ACC admits receiving “transcript” & “uncut edition” of timber documentary from Aljazeera

Joseph Fit John Kamara Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has admitted receiving “quite a good volume of information from AIjazeera” on the now dubbed ‘Timergate’ documentary in Sierra Leone.  The commissioner disclosed that “significant progress has been made in the case “adding that they (ACC) have “received the transcript from the documentary, we’ve received the uncut edition which was taken that you did not get the opportunity of viewing.”

He maintained that “it is a reasonable amount, sufficient enough for analysis. In terms of evidential volume, we can say it is information that matters, but the quality of the information and I am not going to make a comment on as yet.  But I can tell you the information is sufficient for us to start the analytical process.”

The ACC Commissioner further disclosed that they have also “obtained statements from 20 people outside of Aljazeera.”

He explained that he is aware that Sierra Leoneans are anxious and want to see the speedy conclusion of the case.  “A speedy conclusion we shall get to.  But we want to prepare your minds that in the nature of this type of investigation it is not speed that delivers the goods neither is it slowness, what delivers is the quality of the service.”

Joseph Kamara went on to state that the Commission also wants to ensure the quality of the service to be delivered will be recognized when that report will be presented in “due course.”

The ACC Commissioner furthered that they are now at the analytical stage of their work which means that in the course of the investigations they do collation, wherein they go out and get as much relevant information as possible that is relating to the course of your work.

This he said “has even taken us not of the jurisdiction of Sierra Leone.

In accessing some of these persons of interest, there are international laws and regulations that govern the exercise of that and there are some instances domestic legislation governs that.” Mr. Kamara furthered that they have got international cooperation and that “whilst we are doing our work we will be chasing the UK Centre Authority or the US departments of Justice with a cane and telling them ‘hurry up Sierra Leone people want this information right now.”

He maintained that there is diplomatic understanding in some of these works and that “justice delayed is justice denied, but at he same time they have their own calendar of schedule of understanding.” But he said “we are now at the periphery of closure which is close to the edge of close of the chapter of Aljazeera in terms of our work at the ACC, we understand the anxiety – bear with us you will get the information very soon.”

Joseph Kamara disclosed that they do not have any form of interference in this process and they have had access to all information.
