Water crisis hits Eastern – Residents in the Eastern part of the city are pleading with Guma Valley Water Company to have regular supply of pipe borne water. Scores of persons have expressed concern over the shortage of water in their vicinities and want the situation to change for the better.
Maada writes President Koroma – As it is reported in the Tuesday edition of the New Vision Newspaper, the flag bearer and presidential candidate of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has written a letter to President Koroma demanding explanations for his government’s recent purchase of arms and ammunition to arm the police. Bio is quoted as saying that the Inspector General of Police Francis Alieu Munu and the Minister of Internal Affairs have given him different versions on the issue which he wants to clarify with the president.
Govt. urged to pass FOI Bill into Law – Civil Society Organizations including the Freedom of Information Coalition Sierra Leone, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have urged the government of Sierra Leone to pass the Freedom of Information bill which is long overdue in the House of Parliament. In a press release issued yesterday it was noted that the legislation would allow members of the public to obtain access to information held by public bodies, including information that was previously inaccessible, or that was considered sensitive for public consumption
Visa Processing Fees to Change in April – It is reported that visa fees will change effective April 13, 2012 quoting a department of state sources. The fees, according the publication, for non-immigrant visa application and border crossing cards will increase from $140 to $160, while all immigrant visa processing fees will decrease by 69.6% from $330 to $230. The Department is recovering the cost of processing visas through the collection of application fees.
Government has limited fire engines – Personnel of the Sierra Leone Fire Force have disclosed that the NFF has a very limited number of functional fire fighting engines to fight fire outbreaks in the twelve districts of Sierra Leone, including the western area. This disclosure was made on Monday 2nd April by Head of Fire Operations Mr. Ibrahim Suma. He said Freetown has only one functional fire fighter engine to fight any fire outbreak
Margai faces stiff contest in April Confab – Seven strong members of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) party have expressed interest in contesting against the outgoing party leader and presidential flag-bearer, Lawyer Charles Margai at the next PMDC convention to be held in this month. The 7 candidates include Colomba Blango former Sierra Leonean born Mayor of London, Abu Bakarr Kamara aka Engineer who is also from the USA, Steven N’Goija, current minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children Affairs, and Reverend Shudakea Johnson of New Harvest Ministry in Bo who is considered as the forerunner.
