DIF-SL Executive Director meets disable youths in Kenema

The Executive Director of Disable International Foundation–Sierra Leone, Imambay Kadie Kamara (in photo) has paid a courtesy visit to the physically challenged persons at the Amnesty International Office situated at Sombo Street in Kenema on Sunday April 1st. Imambay Kadie Kamara said her organization, the Disability International Foundation S-L is looking into disability issues with special interest to provide them different skills and facilities that would enhance them self reliance.

She noted that skill training exercises will be part of the programs she has scheduled in her line up of programs of activities for the organization

Jatu Mansaray, focal contact person of Disable International Sierra Leone said her Director has dedicated her time and money to deal with disability issues in Sierra Leone. She said the organization was established in 2008 and recorded their first activity in Lungi Kaffu Bullom Northern Sierra Leone by giving out food and non food items to the disables in that part of the country.

Richard. M. Sowie, head of disability issues at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Kenema said the Disable International organization comes at a time to work in partnership with the government to ensure that persons with disabilities are rightly catered for.

She expressed her determination to establish disability centers in the four regions of the country.

Mariama Bah a polio victim said the Disable International Foundation is one of the few organizations that have come to seek the plight of the disables in the country. She applauded them for taking such a bold step of giving a facelift to people with disabilities.

In giving the vote of thanks Fanta Mansaray stressed that disabled persons have suffered far too long the brunt of marginalization and discrimination in the country. She called for an end to such as she expressed hope that the Disable International organization will take them off that spot.

A visit to a piece of land earmarked for the construction of a disable centre at Combema Village, in the Nongowa Chiefdom climaxed the occasion.
