For stalling overseas employment, 3000 irate Youths to rise against APC

More than 3,000 irate youths are poised to rise against the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) Government for what they refer to as deliberately stifling overseas employment opportunity that has been opened to them which the government in all its might cannot provide. The youths are ready to demonstrate against the government using all powers and force in their disposition to ensure that the current overseas employment opportunity that has been opened to them takes hold and right now!

Information reaching Sierra Express Media says the APC government is currently stifling the ongoing process of overseas employment to Iraq and Afghanistan that is being coordinated by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security; using gross corruption and bureaucracy in the way of the success of the programme.

Irate youths, mostly ex-men who had already completed the training exercise for the trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, told Sierra Express Media that the they are finding it very difficult with the employer organization who they say is almost now reneging on the programme because of the incessant blocks they are having with the government despite having made all strides to fulfill their own part of the bargain between them and the government.

One of the employer agents who spoke to this medium said “we paid retainer fee up to $350,000, paid for the training facility and other amenities but all of such has not been provided by the government which is making the success of the programme extremely difficult and sickening for us”.

The programme Sierra Express Media has learnt caters for over 3,000 youths but that only about three hundred have been recruited because of the many constraints the employer company is going through with the government – the  in particular are said to be creating unnecessary hurdles that have extended the programme into a period of over 9 months now this medium understands.

Youths who spoke to Sierra Express registered their disgust at the continued hurdles that are being brought up by the government which according to them has almost mired the programme and left them broke and destitute. “Some of us have put in our all, we have sold all that we had to ensure that we have our way into the programme and if anything goes wrong, we will be damned and the government will pay for that,” a rather disgruntled Abdulai Jalloh who spoke into our micro-tape said in aguish. Another Mustapha Mansaray said, I had to sell my beddings, furniture, TV to ensure that I put my documents, passport together so that I could for once be relieved to have a better job in Iraq but the news we are hearing is certainly disparaging for if this programme is closed down on us, we certainly will be left with nothing and we are ready to demonstrate against this by all means” he said.

At other parlance; complaints are that the government is using the programme mainly to recruit party youths, calling for extra monies from prospective recruits and not releasing materials, equipment and services paid for by the recruiting company; allegations which the Minister of Labour and his Deputy are not available to answer to. Efforts to talk to the Ministry of Defense proved futile as officials say only the Public relations Officers could talk into such matter but was unavailable.
