Government owes Musa Tarawally millions

Following reports that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Musa Tarawally (in photo), was awarded a contract totaling Le1,000,000,000 for the rehabilitation of Lungi Police Barracks, but misappropriated same, the police media director Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Samura, has presented evidence disproving claims as reported by the media.

It is a fact that Musa Tarawally (then Member of Parliament for the Sierra Leone People’s Party) was awarded a contract to rehabilitate the Lungi Police Barracks.

That he funded the project even before full or part payments could be made by the contracting institution – government.

It is confirmed that the contract was nullified by the former Vice President of redundant SLPP government Solomon Ekuma Berewa, barely after Musa Tarawally’s spending of about 50% or more of the projected amount budgeted for the contract.

In his words, the Information and Communication Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo told this press that he has received carefully studied documents relating to the contract, and to his understanding he believes it is government who owes Musa Tarawally though.

He furthered, however, that the Lungi Police contract was practically a loss to the Internal Affairs Minister and not government.

When contacted, Musa Tarawally said documents relating to the Lungi Police contract are at his disposal and could be accessed by interested media organizations.
