Usu Boie figures for running mate
Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara better known as Usu Boie occupies a landscape of political milestones in Sierra Leone as an opposition figure. As Abdel Salaam looks into his catch-all achievements, he avails a life look into his personality and wellbeing.
He has a prima-facie as a Muslim cleric coupled with his political ambition. Much is known about his recent participation in the all race-contest of nineteen flag bearer aspirants where he came as runner-up behind the victor, Julius Maada Bio in the July 29-30 Miatta Conference Hall national delegate’s conference.
Being a popular figure in the Western Area, he won himself accolades following his establishment as Vice President of the National League of Islamic Organizations in Sierra Leone. He has a huge followership in Freetown, the country’s capital and strings of camaraderie in the north. He gains recognition for his generosity and selfless character of an individual with a human heart who loves helping people of all colours, religion and magnitude. His closest bodies say they believe Usu Boie hardly distinguishes between who is a Christian and who is a Muslim.
In 2005, the league of Islamic organization awarded him a meritorious trophy for his good leadership virtuous in the person of the Vice President of that organization. He brought those virtuous of outspokenness into politics of recent, following his lash of tribalism in his political party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The northern executive of the SLPP have taken umbrage with his pronouncements with their wake of imminent threat notice of mass resignations should the flag bearer fail to appoint him running mate in the up battle against the incumbent Ernest Bai Koroma for the 2012 pools. The warning came clear from a certain 88 executive members who say their resignations will create erosion of support in the northern hierarchy.
The north is seeking a regional balance of leadership authority comparing the South where the flag bearer has emerged. The thick point of this argument concerns that a running mate with the ability to influence the north-western electorates is the most comfortable choice in the view of the northern SLPP.
Following this demand, religion shares its stake in the wholesome argument. It is believed that Julius Maada Bio is a Christian from the South that has a support base running through the east of the country. The Muslims crave an equal representation for the running mate position as politics premised the circular liberty of the two primary religions in the country. Their bite on the issue is that a running Muslim from the north would saturate the power hegemony in the party.
