US$800,000 UDM, APC deal exposed – and Mohamed admits voice on tape

Members of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have exposed a ruling All People’s Congress (APC) ploy of a deal worth eight hundred thousand United States Dollars ($US 800,000) to be an alleged sponsor to Mohamed Bangura’s newly established United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party.

A fortnight revelations indicates that the UDM figure did admits he received the said sum and the opposition is rowdy with such development calling it ‘a cheat on democracy’.

An audio message containing Mohamed Bangura’s voice in a clandestine meeting with an unnamed person alleged to be a certain deputy spokesperson of the ruling APC  was being aired in a paid up program relayed on Radio Democracy FM 98.1 over the weekend, October 16 this year.

Mohamed Bangura is believed to have confessed in the audio message that he did receive the said sum amidst claims that he confirms President Koroma to be one his main bodies and that he has been confiding a lot in him on issues regarding his involvement in extra marital activities.

Mohamed Bangura’s utterances as in tape: “Yes, President Koroma gave me US$800.000; he is my man and has even told me of nameless girlfriends he had.”

It could be recalled that before Mohamed Bangura’s establishment of the UDM he came under immense accusations from different quarters in the country of receiving such funding from the ruling APC.

It is a fact that since the UDM was granted license to operate as a political party by the country’s Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), it leadership resorted on praise-singing of President Koroma and at the same time rebukes compatriots (SLPP, PMDC, etc) in the opposition.

About a month ago, Bangura supposedly formed party to the forty man delegation – the ruling APC took to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York – his being a special mission to in his words ‘submit a letter of complaint’ to the United Nations against the Executive Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Sierra Leone, Michael Schulenburg over allegations that the latter meddles with politics in Sierra Leone.

A release the United Nations office in Sierra Leone published recently reveals that they are investigating claims which Mohamed Bangura has made that he went to the UN witnessing its General Assembly in New York and later submitted a letter of complaint to the United Nations Chief of Staff against Sierra Leone’s ERSG Michael Schulenburg.

Meanwhile, the UDM leader has laid claims in another radio interview that the voice in the audio was his claiming though the recording was doctored by some SLPP members he did not name.

He refused to further comment on the said transaction claims between him and President Koroma. That he has neither received US$800,000 from President Koroma nor ever told anyone that the President used to discuss his involvement in extra marital activities.
