“We Hope this is not another Cocaine Plane” Says FDID Director
The Director of the Foundation for Democratic Initiative and Development (FDID), Hindowa Saidu, has expressed fear over a mysterious plane that landed at Lungi International Airport in the recent; questioning whether it was not another cocaine plane.
He made this disclosure after a thorough fact finding assignment to establish the purpose and content in the plane.
He however revealed that four foreign nationals and a Sierra Leonean were arrested by police and are currently being investigated for illegal landing of a plane on Sierra Leone soil.
He expressed concern that the crews have failed to neither explain the purpose/mission nor identify what they’ve brought aboard the plane.
He said that it is possible that plane may have come with hard and dangerous drugs but fell in the hands of wrong people – possibly vulnerable youths.
He furthered that proceeds from the sale of such narcotic drugs could possibly be laundered into Banks and other financial institutions.
He therefore urged government to speedily investigate the reasons surrounding the unlawful landing of such a plane and to make public their findings.
He called on government to strengthen the security apparatus at the airport and respective boarder crossing points in the country. He urged government to intensify its fight against drugs so as to prevent S/L from being used as a conduit for the trafficking of dangerous drugs.
That such will lead to the Sierra Leone being black listed as a country giving safe haven to drug moguls.
He said his organization – the FDID – being a drug prevention entity is of the conviction that the best way to prevent the abuse of drugs is to keep them out of the country.
He maintained that the proliferation of narcotic drugs in the country is a serious security threat nationally.
