Ministry of Internal Affairs indicts police and fire force
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Thursday 13th disclosed to a cross section of journalists that it has conducted an internal investigation on Bo shootout shortly after receiving the recently submitted report on the incidents.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police and fire force acted negligently and unprofessionally.
Such, as mentioned above, was disclosed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Raymond Kabia (photo), at the government weekly press briefing held at the Information Ministry conference hall 8th floor Youyi Building Freetown.
According to the Deputy Minister, he said that internal investigation conducted by his Ministry proved distinct that the Fire Officers in Bo failed responding to distress calls from members of public to have them put out fires at buildings set ablaze during the disturbance.
On the part of the police, he said, they failed to employ other means to contain the violence. He said the police had used live bullets against unarmed civilians nay the killing one and wounding of nineteen.
He said even though the police and fire force are tasked to protect lives and property, they could be prosecuted when they fall short of the law.
The Deputy Minister further said his Ministry has decided to conduct an internal investigation so as to bring to light oddities observed thus preventing a re-occurrence of the ugly incidents.
He called for just to be done to both the civilians and security personnel likewise.
