Medical Superintendent and two others charged for corruption

The Medical Superintendent of the Makeni Government Hospital Dr. Ibrahim Bundu and the Secretary Mr. Allieu Brima Sannoh have been indicted on 3 counts charge under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008. 

The offences include Misappropriation of Donor Funds contrary to Section 37 (1), Abuse of Office contrary to section 42 (1)  and Conspiracy to commit a corruption offence contrary to section 128(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008.

 According to the particulars of offence, both accused persons dishonestly appropriated funds provided by donors as allowance for the Makeni Government Hospital Maternity Unit. 

The second accused Mr. Allieu Brima Sannoh appeared before the High Court in Makeni presided over by Justice Sam Margai on Thursday 13th October 2011.  No plea was taken and was granted a tentative bail in the sum of thirty five million Leones with one surety. The 1st accused person Dr. Ibrahim Bundu is expected to appear in court on the adjourned date. The matter was adjourned to Friday 14th October 2011.  

Also in the same court, Mr. Foday K. Sheriff, Teacher of Makeni Comprehensive Academy was arraigned on 21 counts charge under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008.  The offences include soliciting an advantage for performing an act contrary to Section 28 (2) (A), accepting an advantage for performing an act contrary to Section 28 (2) (A) and abuse of office contrary to Section 42 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008.

He pleaded not guilty on all counts and was granted tentative bail in the sum of twenty million Leones with one surety and matter adjourned to Thursday 20th October 2011. 

The State is represented by Abdul Rahman Mansaray Esq. and Sariffou Harleston while Mr. Allieu Brima Sannoh and Mr. Foday K. Sheriff are represented by Alpha Fornah Esq. 

These are the third and fourth corruption cases to be tried in Makeni since the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Commission does not only seek to prosecute corrupt individuals but also ensures that justice is seen to be done.
