Grandmother Drowns 2 Month Old

On Monday 14th September 2009 a two month old baby lost its life at S.S. Camp Regent, due to no fault of her innocent self – rather than that of her grandmother who left her unattended and alone.

According a witness – Santigie Sesay, the baby was left by its father Sorie Kamara with its grandmother Aminata Kamara to be looked after whilst he went to fetch firewood on the said date and the baby was left alone to drown in a bathing bowl.

Explaining in tearful eyes, Grandmother Aminata Kamara said that she did not mean to forget the child in the bowl to be drowned. She explained that she was in the process of bathing the baby when her other grandchild started screaming and so she rushed in to see what the matter was with the child; leaving the baby in a big bowl she uses for bathing the child who drowned in the luke warm water that was meant to bathe her.

Sobbing hysterically she could hardly speak as she explained that in her haste to attend to the other child, she forgot about the baby and that she only came rushing back outside when she heard a commotion only to see people crying and trying to breathe life back into the baby.

The witness Santigie Sesay confirmed that the baby sunk to the bottom of the bowl and as a result drowned; losing its life in such a cold and horrible manner.

The poor, innocent child has already been buried and investigations are presently being carried out.
