IMC concludes final training for radio technicians
The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has concluded a two-day training session for Radio Technicians in the Western Urban/Rural areas from Thursday 11th – Friday 12th August 2011 at the Jabex Complex Calmount Road, Waterloo. There were 24 participants.
The training focused on key topics such as: Overview of requirement for setting up a radio station; the role of the regulation bodies (IMC and NATCOM); the role and responsibility of radio station technician; equipment used in broadcasting studio; equipment used for transmission; re-broadcast stations and link equipment and power source.
Delivering her opening remarks, the outgoing chairperson, Bernadette Cole said that the Commission has observed that much attention has not been paid to the training of radio technicians and that some of them had in fact had never had any form of formal training in manning radio equipment.
She said that these technicians are normally regarded as apprentices who do not have much to do but rather to switch on machines and generators.
Mrs. Cole explained that as the 2012 elections draw closer, the IMC has decided to train all levels of media functioning throughout the country to ensure smooth operations in its quest to ensure proper functioning of the media during the elections.
Other speaker at the Opening Ceremony included the Waterloo Village Tribal Headman, Chief Pa Alimamy; the Village Headman, Mr. Oseh Whenzle; the Civil Society Representative, Mrs. Doris Webber; the Youth Leader, Mr. Unisa A. Kamara; and the parliamentarian Representative of the area, Hon. D.M. Kamanda who gave the keynote address.
