WAFA leadership battle continues

As the battle for Chairmanship of the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) heats up, a new candidate in the person of Tunde Scott (former Team Manager of Kallon FC) has shown interest to contest with the likes of Victor Lewis and Kainesieu Savage.

The WAFA Chairmanship position has been held by the substantive Chairman, Alhaji Alim Sesay aka Awoko for years now.

Speaking to Sierra Express Media over the weekend, Tunde Scott said he has opted contesting for the position to enable re- structure the activities of WAFA, adding that, the association is being operated by one individual, who virtually dictates the running of the secretariat.

To me, he said, it has shown no form of democracy in the leadership of WAFA at all.

I have identified more reasonable ways of running the 1st and 2nd division leagues and the female leagues right across the country, he continued.

After qualification, no team will go on playoff at all, he said. This is completely wrong of  WAFA’s administration.

The deliverer, as many called him, also said if he is elected as Chairman of WAFA he will ensure that no member of  WAFA will be allowed to own a team.

According to him, being a member of WAFA and then a team owner is completely a situation of conflict of interest.

He however cited Anti Drugs football team, which he said is owned by the WAFA boss, Murray Town Rovers by the PRO of WAFA etc.

Lots and lots are there to be addressed when I take over, he said.

He said the 1st and 2nd division leagues are the second highest leagues in the country, but there seems be that attention is given them at all.

Victor Lewis, who also is vying for the position earlier disclosed to Sierra Express Media Sports that he intends using Tunde Scott as his campaign manager, as he believes with him he can convince delegates to vote him into office as WAFA Chairman.

Tunde is highly connected and has established himself in the football family, Victor said.

He knows a lot more about Sierra Leonean football. Upon hearing that he has declared his intention of running for the WAFA Chairmanship, I saw it a big blow to my camp.
