Zagallo ready for Madrid encounter

Sierra Leonean Norwegian based midfielder, Alfred Zagallo Sankoh, who plays for Stromgodset IF has disclosed to ‘Sierra Express Sport’ that he is prepared to face Athletico Madrid in the first leg tie of the third round of the UEFA CUP Thursday July 28 in Madrid Spain despite reports of him missing the encounter due to injury.

Zagallo picked up a light injury in one of the matches played in his just concluded league for his Norwegean side, but it was not as serious as presumed.

“As I speak, I have been thinking of the match,” he said, “it is important to my football career and I believe it will help make my way playing in Europe.”

The 22 year old midfielder further said playing the 2010 UEFA Cup champions league is not an easy decider because his team as of now is classed as an inexperienced side, but however said that in football one cannot underrate the opponent.

“The Athletico Madrid match is either a make or break for my side. We’ve trained a lot and we are ready for this encounter,” he said.

However, the Norway’s last appearance in this competition was in 1998/99, but they lost to Liverpool 11-0 in the first leg and 2-1 in the second leg in Oslo.

It was referred to as the highest defeat in the history of European Champions’ league.

Zagallo Alfred has said that this time it will be a different story after 90 minutes of play in Spain.

Meanwhile, Zagallo will be the second player to play in the UEFA playoff after Mustapha Haji Bangura played in the playoff with Ammonia Nicossa against Manchester City in the 2008/09 season.

Only two Sierra Leoneans have played in the UEFA Champions league so far – Mohamed Kallon – Inter Milan and Monaco, Mohamed Medo Kamara – Pertizan Belgrade.
