Salone Footballer donates to Bawbaw & No.2 communities
At a ceremony held at the Bawbaw and No. 2 community football fields on Monday 24th April 2017, Patrick Jumu Bantamoi a Sierra Leonean footballer based in Finland in collaboration with DHL International donated several football kits to various football teams in the said communities.
Speaking at the donation ceremony at Bawbaw Patrick Bantamoi said that this was his third donation to the footballers of that community. He explained that in 2010 and 2011 the donation to the community was personal with no help from anybody, but this time he was pleased to have the DHL group on board. He informed his audience that this donation is being made in partnership with DHL, Global Logistics Company and some friends. The intention of all of them is to provide more kits to the vulnerable teams in the country in a bid to improve their performance and keep alive their football dreams.
He admonished all footballers to be focused, hardworking and respect the rules of the game. Bantamoi then gave a brief background to his rise to prominence in the football sphere. He grew up in Wellington, where he attended primary school and later continued his education at the Saint Helena Secondary School where he was the School’s goal keeper. He played for several football clubs including Young Leone Star (a community football club), Clinetonian and F.C. Kallon in the Gambia. Following his performance in the above clubs he was drafted into Sierra Leone’s under 17 squad. Bantamoi also played for Finland Kups FC and FC Inter (Turku) in Finland, Telster (second league) in Holland and FC Vinking (a first division club) in Finland.
Speaking on behalf of DHL, the human resource manager said that they were a charitable organization which has a passion for football and aims to promote the sport globally. This passion drove them to donate the football kit to Sierra Leonean footballers, especially the vulnerable clubs in a bid to improve their performance.
Coach of Bawbaw football team, Senesie Sesay expressed appreciation to the donors for this laudable gesture and intimated that it will go a long way to improve the sport in the community and the performance of the players. Similar sentiments were expressed by Mr. Alex I Bangura an elder in the village and John Sama, a former Leone Stars captain who works with youths in the UK. This gesture was also replicated at No. 2 River community where the beneficiaries, Seaside Strikers’ coach Patrick Goodman and others expressed appreciation and gratitude to the donors, promising to make good use of the items to improve their performance.
