Africell Premier League weekend review

After FC Kallon’s 2-0 victory against FCFC on Wednesday at the National Stadium, the focus of attention now has turned on this crucial weekend`s fixtures in the Western Area and the Provinces respectively. In the weekend fixture at the National Stadium, tenth place Mighty Blackpool settled to a 0-0 draw with Diamond Stars. Mighty Blackpool have collected nine points in their last nine matches.

In Saturday`s fixture in Makeni, bottom side Area Best lost 1-0 to Ports Authority at the Wusum ground in Makeni. This win has put Ports Authority top of the table with 20 points.

In Bo fifth placed Bo rangers beat Central Parade at the Bo Coronation ground by 3-1.  Bo Rangers is the only team yet to taste a defeat in the ongoing league.

At the National Stadium, defending champion East End Lion has revived their chances in wining 4-1 against Kamboi Eagles, this defeat for league leaders has dented their hopes of becoming the first provincial team to lift the prestigious trophy for the first time in their club`s history.

In Sunday’s fixtures in Makeni, third place Wusum Stars hosted second place FC Kallon at the Wusum playing ground which saw FC Kallon loose 2-1 in Makeni. Captain of Wusum Stars Alusine Sesay said that he is very happy for his team’s performance against FC Kallon as they have brought their unbeaten run to a stop. `We played at home and our supporters did well to cheer up the players, we want to be among the best team and this win has increased our chances of winning the league,” he said.

Charlie Wright, coach of FC Kallon said he felt disappointed of the outcome of this result although. “It`s a difficult fixture especially when we are playing before their home crowd.”  He pointed out that his boys played well but it is unfortunate they did not have the three points.

At the National Stadium on Sunday twelfth place Kissy All Stars beat Nepean Star 2-1 with both teams battling it out to relegation.

Meanwhile Ports Authority is currently leading the league with goal deference’s with Kamboi Eagles of Kenema lying in second position in the Africell sponsored Salone Premier League.

Finally, FC  Kallon have more room for improvement.
