Mister Idiot: Where are these Human Rights Lawyers?

It’s paining that this country is hog-washed with so many nomenclatures – Lawyers for Human Rights, Advocacy for Human Rights, etc.,  the list goes on.

At this elixir of time when all is losing about and blaming others for such misfortunes, it is the place of the human rights officials to step in to salvage the situation that would enhance human rights, sovereignty and dignity.

As recent as the indiscriminate sacking of NRA officials issue; the human rights office needed to intervene to prove a point as to whether employees must deserve such unholy treatment or not.

As it is at the moment, mixed understanding is doing the rounds on what culminated to the sacking of the seven officials in that giant money making entity. Save for the fact that newspapers are reporting under guides of the wholesome scenarios that seemed to paint the situation that politics and leakage of confidential documents are reasons preferable for the Commissioner General’s wrath.

What the Human Rights Lawyers failed to do over the years is following issues under their mandates. Failing to set precedents in certain issues leaves public officials with no option but to continue flexing their muscles over their subjects.

We have instances whereby people’s right of living and livelihood are being trampled upon in this country and nobody, including these boisterous human right officials, does anything which leaves the situation to continue unabated.

I have no doubt over this because this is Sierra Leone as usual, where lots of organizations formed by individuals only serve the desire of lining their pockets.

Away from the human right lawyers’ situation, civil society groups are  falling under the same category that fails to keep the rules fairly. These days you hardly see one civil society group working apolitically. This succeeds to record the country’s political class unchallenged. Those who wish to operate outside political circles are having less options and the biggest looser is Mama Salone. By sacking a handful of expatriates in entities such as NRA  that sector is going to loose experienced staff that, it would take time to have their suitable replacement.

If we don’t eschew politics, it is already causing erosion into our development circles, and this has a devastating effect on the socio-economic maturity of this new Sierra Leone with a fifty years history of backwardness.
