Mattsson wants fans support

Sierra Leone Swedish Coach, Lars Olof Mattsson (in photo) talking ahead of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier in Freetown this Saturday has said that he expects Sierra Leone fans to stay behind their darling national team when they face Mena Stars of Niger.

In an exclusive interview with Cafonline, the 56-years old Lars Olof Mattsson said he is under pressure for a win and he has been living with that reality for the past 20-years in his coaching career, but he is optimistic that if the fans turn out in their hundreds despite the dispute that has over shadowed his preparation, he is setting a squad capable to win all three points.

“Let the Sierra Leone fans come out to the National Stadium on Saturday and support their team.  With a crowded stadium, it will help to motivate the boys to win. Winning against Niger on Saturday will be our gift to the nation as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations” he told Cafonline.

“Absolutely, the Sierra Leone players are exceptionally good in the training sessions, I have confidence in them, really, and playing at home will be a different game all together in terms of confidence”.

He went further to say they are in a position where they know the conditions of the game and also think that they can be better prepared at home than in Niger where his side faced hostile weather conditions.

“We are now exposed to better facilities in terms of camping and training of the players which was completely different in our last game”.
