APC Philadelphia Chapter Officials installed in office
It was a night of joy, excitement and solidarity among members of the APC when Mr. Kebbie Turay (in photo) and his corps of APC Philadelphia Chapter officials were installed in office by Mr. Hassan Kamara, Secretary General of the APC-NA. The installment of the APC Philadelphia Chapter officials took place on May 21, 2011 at the Inez Hall, Main Street in Philadelphia. In his installment speech Mr. Hassan Kamara told the newly elected officials to be dedicated, loyal and work in the interest of the APC party and Sierra Leone. He outlined the successes of the APC party through the dynamic leadership of the President Ernest Koroma. Furthermore, Mr. Kamara said the APC in the diaspora is working assiduously to ensure that President Ernest Koroma succeeds in his endeavor to develop Sierra Leone and because of President Koroma’s indelible and auspicious stance in bringing Sierra Leone positively to the committee of nations in world, he is optimistic that he will be re-elected for second term in office. Mr. Hassan Kamara also commended Madam Yabom Thaslim Koroma, President of the APC Washington, DC Metropolitan Chapter for implementing “the Feed the People” project during the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Sierra Leone. He cautioned members to be united and avoid things that will bring disunity and discord in APC party.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Kebbie Turay, said, “I am very happy to be able to address audience this night of Saturday May 21, 2011 as the President of the APC Pennsylvania/Delaware/South Jersey Chapter. I am very confident that members of my executive, my humble family and friends share this happiness with me.
My ascension to the presidency of this great chapter has not been an easy one. It has come as a reward of hard work, commitment and dedication to the APC Party. For the period 2005 to now, the presidency of our chapter has peacefully transitioned from President Frank Lawson (2005), Farama Tass Mansaray (2007), Samuel Dilito Turay (2009), and Madam Wotey Dura-Savage (2009). In 2009, I took up the chapter presidency in an acting capacity to fill the vacancy created by Madam Wotey Dura- Savage who went back to serve the people of Sierra Leone.
My hard work and ability to galvanize the chapter together planted in the minds of the members the choice to elect me as their president in an election that won the admiration of others in the APC North America Branch (APCNA). The swearing–in this night of this executive has created an indelible mark in the books of the APCNA and I ask that other chapters in the APCNA will emulate it.
Your presence here tonight and the warm reception you are receiving from the hands of my chapter members is enough to justify my claim of the APC PA/DE/SJ chapter being a united and peaceful chapter that is focus on ensuring and promoting Brotherly Love in the “City of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia”.
I want to assure all of you present here this night and those of you who are physically absence here tonight, but will have the opportunity to listen to or read my speech, that APC PA/DE /SJ chapter under this leadership is committed to work with the APCNA and the APC Party as a whole . We want to ensure that our party continues to stay in power, lead the people of Sierra Leone to sustainable development, and make it a society that respects all its citizens and inhabitants irrespective of race, color, religion and political belief or affiliation.
My dear people, tonight my mind is full and I cannot really say much to you that is new. However, I want to use the words and ideas of our late leader and political father President Siaka Probyn Stevens (RIP), “Obviously there is not much that we can celebrate today. The kitty is empty and I think you will agree with me that what is necessary at this time is that we should gird our loins and prepare ourselves for the strenuous task that lies ahead to put Sierra Leone on a sound financial basis” ( what life has taught me). It is obvious that these words hold true for us today. We need to build a better Sierra Leone that will stand to the socio-economic and political challenges of the future.
The APC Party led by President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is committed to this ideology and works to create a peaceful Sierra Leone and an economically viable society. The evidence of his work is clear to all. The just concluded 50th independence anniversary celebrations are also evidence of the party’s good works in putting our country on the path of sustainable development. We must support this course unflinchingly. However, we must first start with supporting and building our local chapters and then the APCNA, and the APC party, which will then translate, to a better Sierra Leone.
We need to stop and shy away from the petty in-fighting, character assassinations, malicious attacks aim at pulling each other down. The lying and gossiping with long hours on the phone and internet forums, has threaten the peace, unity and viability of our branch to support the work of the APC party and the government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. We must stop this. There is the strong need for a change of attitude as trumpeted by our leader and president in his agenda for “Attitudinal Change”.
The Aziz Turay administration must have our support to succeed for the good of Sierra Leone. The success of the APCNA is success for APC and the people of Sierra Leone and these two expect much from us. We need to commit ourselves to this and now is the time. We need to know that 2012 is just months away from today and we should not allow ourselves to be held back by petty things. The opposition is at work for another failure, but we should work harder for another victory. President Barak Obama said “Yes we can” and we did. I want to say – Yes, we can and we will. APC will live and rule forever.
As I conclude, I feel compelled to thank the chairman and executive members and members of the APCNA, Chapter Presidents and members, representatives of political and social organizations, our distinguished guests, my chapter members, and friends, members of the press, supporters and my family for making this occasion a success. To my executive, I want to say I am proud of you all and I do believe with team work we can succeed to put this chapter to a higher height. Our representative in the APCNA executive – Alusine Lovell, Mamusu Conteh-Luke, and Samuel Dilito Turay, are doing a good job in representing us, thank you.”
Many thanks also to the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma , APC Party leaders and the people of Sierra Leone for all the work in building a better Sierra Leone.
“Orwai, Orsai tae go”. All for EBK, Victory to APC. Long live APC Long Live President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Long Live APCNA Long Live APC PA/DE/SJ Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! God Bless you allBy Joseph Sherman, The Salone Monitor
