Disappointment…nurses plan strike action

Nurses are set for strike action owing to serialized death of patients at the Princess Christiana Maternity Hospital (PCMH).

They claimed that soon after a Nigerian doctor commenced work in the hospital, there had been over ten cases of deaths due to negligence.

Ministry officials have taken into the policy of bringing inexperienced Nigerian doctors to work as experts.

It is alleged also that the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Hon Zainab Hawa Bangura, has sent three senior doctors on leave without any reason.

A reliable source informed this press that the doctors received their letters from Minister Zainab Bangura in the evening of Tuesday 29th. Content in the letter states that all three senior doctors should go on vacation leave, while at the same time, the running of the hospital will be left in the hands of an inexperienced Nigerian medical doctor.

Doctors sent on leave are Dr. Ibrahim Thorlie, D. Sidiki, and Dr. Kamara.

It is disclosed that the Matron of PCMH is been sent on leave also.

It has reached this press that nurses have vouched to take strike action protesting Zainab Bangura’s uncalled for suspension of three doctors and a matron.

Nurses who spoke to this press described the action of the Minister of Health as a move to undermine President Koroma’s free health initiative.

They’ve called on government to look into the issue, especially at a time the free health is beginning to take shape.

The nurses maintained that the suspended doctors are not just the brain behind the success of the free health care system, but rather the moral fiber of the PCMH hospital.
