Night Clubs – what’s the deal?
For a country like Sierra Leone we have quite a few night clubs to cater for social needs and desires. It must be noted that some of these clubs have earned respect far and wide and have quite a reputation as the place to be. With all the stress that one goes through trying to find bread to put on the table, it’s refreshing to find a place where one can just relax and chill out for a few hours.
To my dismay I actually discovered that some of these clubs frown at ladies without a partner. If you are unlucky enough not to have a man to hold your hand for the night to enter these mighty clubs you are considered to be a prostitute. One might argue that an individual’s dress code is a factor in being determined as a prostitute. On one level I agree as one has to be respectable and presentable enough. On another level I totally disagree. Some prostitutes look good and dress good so what’s the deal. Prostitution business is not necessarily run by actual professional ladies; they are run by almost every other person in the Sierra Leone context. Splash a few dollars and most ladies will go for it-even killing themselves to be the lucky client prostitute or not as the case may be. With much respect to ladies out there who value themselves I don’t mean to be insulting but honestly that is the truth. Ladies like these just make social life difficult for us and we find ourselves in spots we never thought we’d be in. Most of these ladies too are very decent and presentable but sell the game on any given opportunity. So how do you determine a prostitute or a casual sex hooker?
If determining a lady from a ‘ho’ was actually done properly and with respect, then that would be somewhat okay. Bouncers at the club are so outright disrespectful and don’t really take their time to check a person out before being looked upon as a ‘ho’; on many occasion I have found girls in hot tirade with men who brand them what they are not. They just pass verdict and you are slammed or rather in this case shamed and taken for granted.
Most clubs protest that they’re trying to help cut down the rate of prostitution but excuse me? What’s the deal? Maybe I’m blind or maybe just angry but it appears to me that clubs actually encourage prostitution. Why does a night of clubbing be free for ladies? What about the guys? Why not do one free for them too?
Why offer free drinks to the ladies? Why not offer same to the guys too?
Why encourage girls to dance rudely showcasing their bodies in ‘sexiest,’ ‘lady of the night’ competitions?
In clubs far and wide, prostitutes are always welcome as they bring more service and customers. They are even encouraged to hound their trade in some clubs on permanent basis. Sure in some V.I.P clubs, they are not allowed or if then not just any type of prostitute.
So it came to me as a surprise that our social nightclubs are against prostitution and are actually destroying their business by turning people away for fear that they might be sex workers. It’s so disgusting and degrading that ladies have to go through the treatment they go through just to get into a club. Try all you can there will always be prostitutes especially in a poor country like Sierra Leone where there’s a high rate of unemployment. It all comes down to poor customer service. People go out to relax and forget about life’s pressures rather we have to face them in places where we seek escapism. So what’s the deal? What do we have to do to be respected in society? If a lady has her own money she’s called names, if she’s trying to uphold and upgrade herself she’s called names. If she goes clubbing by herself she’s called a hooker. What’s the deal?
