Nominations for Sierra Leone @ 50 Awards
In celebration of Sierra Leone’s 50th Independence Anniversary, The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Washington D.C., in collaboration with the USA Planning Committee will be organizing an Awards Night/Banquet scheduled to take place at the prestigious Martin’s Crosswind, Greenbelt, Maryland on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
At this event, Sierra Leone @50 Awards will be conferred on nominees recognized for their contributions to Sierra Leone in the categories of Culture, Humanitarian Work, Sports and Entertainment, Health, and Education. The event will gather dignitaries from the academia, political arena, sports and entertainment for an evening of reminiscence, celebration and entertainment in a fitting banquet ambiance. The highlight will be the conferring of the Sierra Leone @ 50 Awards.
In this regard, the Embassy invites nominations from the public of deserving persons and groups whose contributions are deemed worthy of the Sierra Leone @ 50 Awards.
Categories:
Culture – Goes to persons who have in their various capacities or vocations worked to promote the culture of Sierra Leoneans that have helped Americans, Canadians and the world in general to appreciate the values from Sierra Leone, and/or raise awareness on the profile of the country.
Sports, and Entertainment – Goes to persons whose talent, resources and efforts through the arts, the media, and/or sports, have been able to advance the good image of Sierra Leone, raise awareness and promote friendship between Sierra Leoneans and Americans/Canadians.
Humanitarian work – Goes to persons or charitable organizations, whose goodwill work has had outstanding social impact on the people of Sierra Leone particularly in the areas of health, education and relief.
Other – Goes to any other category of service worthy of recognition but not reflected in any of the three afore-mentioned categories.
Criteria for Nominees:
- Must have made said contributions/achievements between 1961 and 2010.
- Must have made a significant impact on the lives of Sierra Leoneans in the USA, Canada or in Sierra Leone.
- Must be/have been resident of United States or Canada when he/she/they made the said contributions or achievements, for which he/she/they is/are being nominated.
- Must be able to provide evidence/records of the contribution or achievement that nominee is being named for.
