Congratulations Sierra Leone at 60!
Tomorrow, 27th April 2021, Sierra Leone will celebrate her sixtieth independence anniversary. As we heartily congratulate the people of our beloved country on their sixtieth year of sovereignty and freedom from the shackles of colonial bondage, we also wish them peaceful and happy independence celebrations.
Our hearts are however heavy and brooding over the long period of inhuman degradation and deprivation that our people have endured for so long in the hands of callous, greedy and selfish politicians.
Sierra Leoneans have undeservedly suffered state-imposed poverty and political harassment and molestation at an unpardonable scale.
At 60, over 90% of Sierra Leoneans don’t have access to portable water and sanitation, let alone electricity supply and good roads. The basic amenities of life remain a luxury enjoyed only by the political elite and the gentry in society.
We are strongly touched by the squalid conditions of the rural poor who are affected the most by this wanton scale of deliberate and calculated social deprivation and robbing of their humanity by political scavengers and wolves parading in sheep’s clothing as servants of the people.
We may tend to hold on to the saying that “once there is life, there is hope”. At 60 though, the only hope in Sierra Leone is God’s mercy; and we are of the strong conviction that He will have mercy upon His victimized people and punish those who victimized them.
