Wi Na Wan Fambul to step up campaign in Bomaru

The launching of Wi Na Wan Fambul Campaign is slated for 23rd March 2001, in Bomaru Town Kailahun District.

On his part, the Chairman of the campaign, John Caulker, yesterday informed journalists that the campaign chose Bomaru Town because it was the place where the Sierra Leone war started.

He said it was in Bomaru where the first gun shot was fired.

That Bomaru was the first to thirst the bitterness of war by rebels of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF).

He furthered that the 22nd and 23rd should be remembered as a day Sierra Leone experienced rebel war.

“Of course, 23rd March marks the 20th anniversary of Sierra Leone’s brutal rebel war,” he said.

“For now” he said, “we are yet to approach government for funding, but have had meetings with UNIPSL and the US Embassy.”

He therefore called on government and stakeholders of society to support the campaign in its stride to promote peace and unity.
