Police Sergeant Rapes Girl 13

A police sergeant age 42 was yesterday refused bail after making his first appearance before Magistrate Mohamed Binneh Kamara to answer to one count charge of abuse of a young girl contrary to Section 6 of the Prevention of Cruelty Against Child Act 2006.

In the particulars of offence, it is stated that on Thursday 17th at the Kingtom Police Barracks, the accused unlawfully abused a 13 year old girl.

It is a fact that human rights organizations have made frantic efforts to help eradicate the abuse of young girls in Sierra Leone.

That the police being an arm that is responsible to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of offences of rape, have on many occasions benefited financial support from respective international organizations.

It is disappointing though that a police sergeant is said to have abused a teenage girl and is now in court answering to an allegation of rape.

The accused has been remanded in custody pending next court appearance on 10th March.

It is expected that the prosecution will start its case in the next sitting.
