President’s HIV/AIDS Strategy For 2011 to 2015

Sierra Leone’s President who doubles as Chairman of the National Aids Council has on 1st December disclosed government’s commitment in the swift national response to preventing the spread of HIV/Aids in our society.

President Ernest Koroma (in photo), on December 1st, a day set aside for the celebration of World Aids Day, officially launching Sierra Leone’s National Strategic plan for 2011 to 2015.

The celebration of World Aids Day came shortly after government of Sierra Leone received an MDG award for leadership commitment in the fight against HIV AND Aids, brought together stakeholders, donor partners and Ministers of government charting and dancing over achievements gained.

In his keynote address, President Koroma noted however that by 2015 he intends to see a Sierra Leone that is free of HIV/Aids, as this to him, can be achieved through collaborative efforts of Sierra Leoneans.

He said one of purpose for celebrating World Aids Day is to increase the level of awareness and try to improve the education on HIV/AIDS.

He said this year’s celebration marks a turning point to the historic of Sierra Leone under his leadership.

That it is under his leadership as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone that an MDG award for leadership commitment on HIV/AIDS reached society.

He further noted that the launching of the national strategic plan for 2011-2015 came as a result of the commitment of all in the fight to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids.

He however congratulates the leadership of National Aids Secretariat and urged them to press on in their efforts to bring to Sierra Leoneans all the goodies in relation to HIV/AIDS.
