We will win trophy for Sierra Leone 50th Anniversary

Sierra Leone Under-20 team manager, James Fofanah popularly known as JJ has disclosed that his junior national side will go all out and win the African International Youth tournament’s Madam Trophy for the nation in its commemoration of 50th anniversary celebration in 2011. “Sierra Leone will be 50 years old soon and our intention is to win the Madam trophy and offer it to the president as a special token for the nation’s 50th Anniversary celebration. We have told the players that they must go out and play for the nation, there can hardly be a better time to give our people the gift in such a very important timeline in our history,” said James Fofanah.  (Photo: U-20 captain, Khalifa Jabbie)

The Sierra Leone Under-20 which started training in preparation for the tournament last Wednesday said his team have all the incentives to spur the players, “we are giving them their allowances and things are looking good.” He warned the six other international squads and organisers FC Johansen that they are bent on putting up a good fight for the trophy and with players like young striker, Mohamed Alhaji  Kamara (Belvic FC), midfielder Khalifa Jabbie (FC Kallon), goalkeeper Mambay Sattie (Kambui Eagles), the Sierra Leone under-20 manager believes he has the best players in the tournament. Whilst they have made the Madam trophy a priority, James Fofanah said they still have one eye on another tournament on the return leg qualifier in Monrovia against Liberia. “We are going to use the AIYT in strengthening the squad and exposing the boys to more international type football which is hard to get these days.”

Mr Fofanah also called on Sierra Leoneans to turn out in their thousands at the National Stadium in Freetown and support the tournament, saying Sierra Leoneans should be proud of people like Isha Johansen for what he referred as a very ‘enormous task’ in organising the tournament. “The best we can express thanks to Isha’s great work is to turn out in our numbers,” he concluded.
