Five police officers Wednesday 13th beat up and dragged to Central Police Station female journalist Kadijatu Kamara, who works as a reporter for the Independent Observer newspaper.  She was beaten up by traffic police personnel attached to Central Police.

Her thrashing, we are told, came as a result of an attempt to take photograph of five police officers observed manhandling an Okada driver they had arrested.

The female journalist was later frog marched into a police land rover vehicle and taken to Central Police where she was forced to make a statement on the allegation that she obstructed police while in the execution of their duty.

According to Kadijatu, she was at Siaka Stevens Street on beat patrol when she noticed the presence of traffic police officers.

She said the officers were engaged in the apprehension of persons using ‘Okadas’ for commercial purposes on main streets in the city of Freetown.

This, to her, was human interest and demands full coverage.

“I was gathering the news and trying to take actionable pictures when five traffic police men caught at me and began beaten me. They later dragged me to a police land rover and escorted me to Central Police,” Kadijatu said.

She added “the police frog marched me to a police land rover that was parked at the scene and took me to Central Police where a statement was obtained from me and then placed under detention.”

Kadijatu, it is revealed, had her liberty shortly after the intervention of the President of SLAJ, El Hajj Umaru Fofanah.
