Sierra Leone opponents brace for Australia friendly
The seven-time African champions, Egypt (n photo), failing to defeat Sierra Leone at home in their opening qualifier, before losing their second in Niger last week will play at home in Cairo against Australia as part of rebuilding their squad after two disastrous displays in the start to the 2010 Nations Cup qualifiers.
Egypt is currently in bottom place in Group G with just one point from a possible six will face Australia for only the second time on 17 November as Australia are warming up for January’s Asian Cup in Qatar.
“The Egyptians are very skillful and have plenty of pace,” says Socceroos boss Holger Osnieck. “With the support of a large partisan home crowd, the match will be a very good challenge.” The teams’ previous encounter came in 1987, when Australia won the semi-finals of the Presidents cup in South Korea on penalties.
