Zain – Sierra Leone’s move is in the right direction

Mobile operator Zain Sierra Leone has rolled out a raft of value added services that are expected to re-energise its competitiveness and positioning in the mass market.

In the latest push, subscribers on the firm’s network can now have access to free WAP Internet service on their hand held devices, update their Facebook profile through SMS only and send SMS to many through the web2sms.

Having recruited more subscribers in the last months, mobile operator Zain Sierra Leone is now turning its focus on Value Added Services (VAS).

Zain Sierra Leone has enjoyed increased popularity with the launch of its Fambul tariff campaign. The company’s newest offerings, per second billing for all calls on the network including International calls and the lowest ever off-net tariff of 12 units in Sierra Leone, allows users to save money on the use of these services.

“We will ensure that our customers have access to affordable communication, especially the youth, whose communication needs should be catered for, as they want to communicate on a 24-hour basis at affordable rates,” said Ted Sauti-Phiri, Zain Sierra Leone Managing Director.

Under the Fambul tariff, subscribers are also able to make free calls between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. daily.

Recent research shows that 65 percent of all new mobile subscribers in Sierra Leone over the past months chose the Zain network. Subscribers are selecting Zain because of its superior network quality and affordable in-network and cross-network calling rates, Sauti-Phiri explained. He assured that Zain has invested in wide coverage and is constantly upgrading its infrastructure to meet growing demands.

Zain has made it clear it is out to consolidate the already gained leadership in the mobile market with Mr. Sauti-Phiri saying the lowering of its tariffs was only the first ace up its sleeve. He has in the past said that the operator is ready to match any move its competitors make.

Mr. Sauti-Phiri said Zain Sierra Leone would continue enriching the customer experience through providing affordable and flexible services in line with the changing market needs.

“We are very happy with the way the Sierra Leonean market has received our new approach to business. We are confident that we will be able to retain and subsequently add a significant portion of the market share as we pursue our goal of sustained market leadership,” Mr. Sauti-Phiri said.

He disclosed that Zain Sierra Leone has embarked on upgrading her infrastructure to cope up with the growing traffic.
