Leone Stars v South Africa – President Koroma wants victory
Ahead of Sierra Leone’s crucial home match with 2010 World Cup Host South Africa the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Hon. Ernest Bai Koroma (in photo) has said he wants a victory againt Bafana this Sunday.
The President who was sworn in office on 17 September 2007 will be a happy man seeing his country flag waving in the African Nations Cup to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, according to reports from Sierra Leone UK Press Attaché, Sorie Sudan Sesay.
The President and the Government of Sierra Leone is very much committed to the welfare of the people of Sierra Leone and that includes of course sport. That was why when he took over he immediately answered to the desperate call of the people for the renovation of the National Stadium; we all can see that the APC government is putting much more emphasis on football because we know it’s the country’s most popular sport,” Sudan said.
He continued, “We have played our part as far the game for South Africa is concerned and we believe the Sierra Leone Football Association and the players are very much motivated to achieve what every Sierra Leonean at home and abroad will be looking forward to this weekend – and that is victory.”
This is a very important home tie for Sierra Leone considering South Africa is more than prepared for this tricky away encounter in Freetown, a win for Leone stars will allow the home side a firm grip in the road to Gabon, Equatorial Guinea 2012.
And President and his government will be very pleased with victory as it means his government will be leading Sierra Leone’s National team, the Leone Stars closer to be in the biggest tournament in the continent for the third time after failing to make the tournament in recent years under the previous government SLPP.
Leone Stars last played in the tournament 1994 and 1996, South Africa was the winner of the 1996 tournament and they are desperate to achieve that goal by beating Leone Stars this Sunday in what many describe as a clash of the titans.
“If we win in Freetown against South Africa nothing will stop me from reaching the finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012. We have started on excellent note against Egypt and we hope to build on that against South Africa. These are the words from the Sierra Leone veteran technician, Christian Cole.
On the other hand – “Truly speaking, it is not going to be an easy encounter but we must stay focused in Freetown, we will have to be patient and if we use a little bit of experience and maturity up front we will achieve our goals. I think this team is maturing well and the confidence is coming back” South Africa Mosimane said.
This encounter is going to be watched by many sports pundits, football agents, local and international football journalist including the Confederation of African football representatives.

Alie Bittar, this is madness. When people are talking about Football it should be only football and not politics. Pleople you are just degrading Sierra Leone in the eyes of normal people. There is no way Football can be mix with APC Government.
