Pandemonium in Tegloma Dallas Chapter Meeting

An emotionally charged Tegloma Dallas Chapter meeting packed with new recruits and re-entry members ended prematurely Saturday night, October 2nd. While the meeting was going on, the political aspirant’s agents were busily campaigning for the February 2011 elections. More than two hundred people ranging from newly recruited members, including the Deputy Mayor of Rowlett, Mr. Patrick Jackson, observers, as well as effective and ineffective members, attended the unfinished meeting.

The new members were very enthusiastic to introduce themselves, but sad to see unbelievable bad culture in the organization.  Many of us were expecting that a period of rapid social economic growth had come to the Tegloma Dallas chapter, when new members were storming to register for the vibrant non-profit organization.  The fact is that, the development of the chapter took an impetus following a successful commencement of the national convention spearheaded by the charismatic leadership of Mr. Reuben Ndomahina (in photo) on September 4th.

The first general meeting since the end of the popular national convention, shows clear evidence that this organization is prevailing in the Diaspora, if callousness discontinues.   What is most interesting about the first meeting since the convention was the re-registration of erstwhile members, who have taken an exit from the organization probably for different reasons. Earlier before the convention, one member told me that he took an exit because of what he said, “Unfulfilling conditions.”  I am yet to establish what the present administration has failed to fulfill.

Despite the unfulfilling conditions that some of the members claimed against the organization which warranted them to be ineffective, the organization still stayed abounded.  Since the constitution does not put a border line of conditions for members tending to abandon the organization for re-entry, the amendment is necessary to limit people with confusion, another new member noted.  Nevertheless, new members were inspired by the leadership’s successful pursuit of the convention, and its general report.  For letting” bygones be bygones,” to welcome and accommodate the exit members to re-register was a remarkable scene to some of us who are new members.

The 2011 possible aspirants, Mr. Skeik Daboh and the incumbent Vice President, Mrs. Josephine Ladipo where contentiously melted down when the clamor of the crowd was uneasy to control by the president. Senior members and even past presidents of the organization that I recognized stayed quiet in the pandemonium meeting. The atmosphere was very hostile, seeing people posing aggressive questions and responses to achieve their agitation goal. The president, Mr. Ndomahina was depressed by the failure to control the apprehensive supporters of the political aspirants.

In view of the situation of what is seriously raging in the organization is people are the belief in self perception and confidence in defiance.  I learned from various sources that this rancour situation started long way back before the convention.  The story about what causes the infighting is yet to be established when I have to conduct interviews by stake holders.  (Photo: Tegloma group photo)

In the meeting, new members were sucked into the tense competitive atmosphere while people were going around campaigning and recruiting members for the forth coming general elections of February 2011.  New members observed that there where seemingly growing domestic differences that needed urgent attention by the federation.

A prosperous and successful organization like Dallas Tegloma really requires not only resourcefulness, but also disinterestedness and loftiness of purpose.  People should be aware that the primary purpose of Tegloma is to operate independently, and to promote social, economic, and general welfare of its members.  The constitution of the organization that I obtained from one of the past presidents, is unique to be interpreted as a nonprofit, non-political, and has its core value of what is stated in the preamble that, “We desire to promote the interest and welfare of our citizens residing in the state of Texas and in Sierra Leone and to enjoy the fellowship of one another.” If animosity continues to grow because of the influence of the ugly types of politics of our country, the organization will lose its integrity, one new member observed.

As part of the global challenges of peace and unity, freedom of speech is a permissible means of attaining a social welfare which purpose that I have actually seen in my first day of membership in Tegloma. Every member was allowed to speak freely without intrusion by the Parliamentarian officer Mr. Dan Lahai. Despite the campaign trail that was clamoring in the hall, the President was full of patience, and worked to cool down the members in order to allow everyone to speak his/her opinion.  What fascinated me most in this new phenomenal goal was the financial statement report presented by the treasure, Mr.  Amadu Jalloh.  The president described it as a comprehensive and accurate report; although, one member raised comment on the convention report presented by the Social Secretary/Convention Chairman, Mr. Mambu Koroma, many believe the Social Secretary did a good job.

Among the important issues discussed was the charity project Tegloma Dallas chapter is undertaking.  It was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth Bockerie, a onetime President of Sisters of Sierra Leone.  Several other important issues that were in the agenda, including candidates declaration were not addressed due to disorderly disturbances, consequently, the  president decided to discontinue the meeting.  The struggle for power will continue fiercely, if measures are not taking by the federation.
