Idasa/CARE Australia forum on the Role of Civil Society in Good Governance
African democracy institute Idasa and CARE Australia will host a two-day forum at the Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, on 6-7 September 2010 on the “Role of civil society in good governance”.
As the Australian Partnership with Africa Communities (APAC) draws to a close, this forum of about 70 participants will focus on the nature and practice of citizens’ participation and engagement with community structures, government and the private sector. It aims to deepen the exploration of critical themes of good governance that have emerged through APAC and other programming initiatives.
The forum brings together non-government organisations, community-based and civil society organisations, academics, government officials, private sector representatives and provocative thinkers and innovators in the field from Africa, Australia and other countries. The agenda has been designed to encourage active discussion and debate and to cross-fertilise ideas and insights. Moderated presentations will lead to interactive discussion sessions.
