Zain donates to Owen Street disaster victims
Following the mudslide disaster on Sunday August 8th, which claimed the lives of 14 people at No.46, Owen Street, off Mountain Cut, one of the leading mobile phone companies in Sierra Leone, Zain has extended heartfelt condolences to bereaved family members of the mudslide victims.
In a solemn mood and in compliance with its corporate social responsibility, on Friday August 13th, Zain presented assorted cooking items and toiletries including the sum of 1.5 million Leones to the bereaved families.
The assorted items included 7 bags of rice; 5 bags of onions; 20 gallons of cooking oil; tomato paste, magi; serviettes; blankets and bathing soaps.
Explaining the rationale behind the goodwill gesture to Sierra Express Media, one of the company’s staff, John Abu Kpawoh said as Zain is a household name in Sierra Leone, the company deemed it fit and timely to fulfill part of it corporate social responsibility by responding to peoples’ needs not only in time of happiness but also in time of crisis, such as the
Prior to the presentation of the items and the sum of 1.5 million Leones to the bereaved families; Zain’s Junerose Johnson expressed deep sympathy to the families on behalf of management and team.
She told the family members that Zain – Sierra Leone has been seen in celebrative moments, but this time around they were there to express sympathy and sorrow for the 14 deceased in last Sunday mudslide disaster.
While formally presenting the items, the indefatigable Zain-SL Managing Director, Ted Sauti-Phiri said they were not there to replace or do something that was commensurate to the lives lost in the mudslide; but as a responsible mobile phone company they owed it as a moral duty to sympathize with the families for the irreversible loss of their loved ones, “as a friend in need is a friend indeed,” he added.
