Signing on behalf of the World Bank was the Country Programme Coordinator, African Region, Mr. Sergiy V. Kulyk.

In a brief statement following the signing ceremony, Mr. Kulyk said it was always his pleasure to sign on behalf of the World Bank. He lauded President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for the bold steps he has taken in making child and maternal health care delivery services free, country wide. He also lauded the efforts of the government in combating corruption and hoped that the grant will go a long way in enhancing the goals of the President’s Agenda for Change.

Responding, Ambassador Stevens on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone thanked the World Bank for its continued support to Sierra Leone. He reiterated government’s commitment to restore the dignity of the people –more than 60% of whom live in abject poverty. He also praised the free medical service delivery for under-fives and lactating mothers and appealed to the World Bank Director to continue to assist Sierra Leone in her drive to meet the Millennium Development Goals.
