Hon.Timbo steals the show at SLPP convention in Southern California
On the 6th of August 2010, a congregation of SLPP delegates from all over the United States of America, Canada and Sierra Leone converged in Southern California, Fullerton Crown Plaza Hotel to witness history in the making of the much talked about 2010 SLPPNA Regional Convention.
On that same evening around 7:00 pm all delegates and the five flag bearer aspirants present namely : Dr. Kadie Sesay, Hon Alpha Osman Timbo, Boi Kamara, Ambassador John Leigh, and Mr. Umaru Dumbuya were invited to the residence of Mr.& Mrs. Francis Bayo, for a meet, greet and dine session. Around 8.00 pm before dinner was served the convention chairman Mr. Solomon Ngebe, asked the aspirants to make introductory statements. After their brief statements we enjoyed very delicious African dishes such as the popular cassava leaf, krain krain, peanut butter soup and more. Unfortunately for us the hyphenated Fulas our favorite cow-milk (manono) was not available but nevertheless we had a very good dinner.
On August 7, 2010 the convention activities started with a breakfast at 7. 00 am with Mr. Timbo being the first to show up at around 7:45 am. At this time, the convention hall was jam packed with delegates from all the four corners of the United States of America, Canada and Sierra Leone. At round 9:00 am, the convention Chairman asked delegates to be patient as we awaited the arrival of Dr. Kadie Sesay and Mr. Usman Boi Kamara, who were late due to circumstances beyond their control. At 10:10 am prompt, the convention was declared open by the charismatic Chairman Mr. Solomon Ngebeh, with remarks, roll call of the delegates and an introduction of chapter Chair persons, flag bearer aspirants and North America Region Chairman – Mr. Boss Fallay. To invoke the presence of the Almighty Allah (God), Reverend Titus Ngebeh, was asked to lead us in a Christian prayer and Mr. Allie Dausie Wurie in a Muslim one. Then everyone sang the Sierra Leone National Anthem. Mr. Francis Bayo gave a very precise and moving welcome speech. Throughout the convention the popular mantra was “SLPP = NO MORE COMPLAIN”. Frankly speaking, by all indications the entire membership on the floor is more than ready to oust the APC out of power come 2012. All that is needed is a presidential candidate, not just a candidate in the interest of tribe, region or wealth.
The most epoch period of the convention came about when the flag bearer aspirants made their mark with very brief speeches. In my opinion, they all did well but Hon. Alpha O. Timbo, stole the show with his detailed summation of the issues plaguing our country and his precise plan of action to remedy such issues. In that vein, I can now safely say : I AM EMPOWERED. I AM WITH THE NATIONAL CAUCUS OF HON. ALPHA O. TIMBO, CHAMPION OF THE VOICELESS, A COURAGEOUS ASPIRING LEADER, THAT CAN SAVE SIERRA LEONE AND BRIDGE THE POLITICAL DIVIDE.
The National Caucus for Hon. Alpha O. Timbo extend sincere thanks to the entire Southern California Chapter for a job well done and for the wonderful hospitality accorded to our team. We would also like to extend special thanks to Mr. Francis Bayo, who spent the entire day plying between three airports LAX, SNA and LOG BEACH to transport delegates to the hotel and to all other participants for the civility that permeates all activities of the convention. Indeed, the SLPP is one big family true to the inner core beliefs of our founding fathers who coined the phrase “One country, one people. One people, one country.”
