Bruno in Kailahun?

Bruno in Kailahun?

That coward but over ambitious former army lieutenant colonel who would not hesitate to shoot a junior officer in the back continues his anti mende ranting words in the press. I have not bothered to read his latest outburst in the pages of the standard times newspaper of July 14, except for the headline in which he wonders whether Dr. Banya is getting senile. SIM Turay must be new to newspapers otherwise he would have realized that the word senility has been overused and misused against Dr. Banya. With that I will leave him with his delusions of grandeur. Other columnists have already reduced the mad colonel to his proper level.   (Photo: Dr. Sama Banya)

Many will remember the hero, the villain, the bully etc. the one and only Bruno of the Taccugama Chimp orphanage up in Regent. I beg pardon, I mean Bathurst in the mountain rural district. The purpose of this column is not to start an inter village conflict as our brothers and sisters insist that the camp is really in Bathurst. It may be remembered that some few years back some strong headed people ignored all the danger warnings and went up to the sanctuary early on a Sunday morning. This was followed by a tragedy when the chimps who often have the intelligence of humans, opened their lock and went on the attack. A number of them led by Bruno broke camp and headed for the wild. A few came back but not the great Bruno and two others. From time to time  they were spotted as far as the Hastings area but they harmed no one nor caused any havoc. I must confess I had stopped thinking of Bruno, that is until my last week end trip to Kailahun. People said there was a huge chimpanzee  around the “Tigo spot” which is between mile 6 and 7 on the Pendembu Kailahun road. It was reported that it often crossed the main road and would patch itself up on a high ground watching people go by. At first people were frightened and then the women on their way to the farm would throw bananas, oranges and any fruits to him which he devoured with relish.

The kailahun Bruno now looks forward to this feast and so he makes the crossing regularly and makes no attempt whatsoever to attack anyone. Now where has this second Bruno emerged from? Could he have been in a pack which now finds him too much of a burden and has therefore chased him out? It is intriguing and I propose to ask my friend Baala the Director at Taccugama if he would throw light on the mystery. One thing of which I am sure, this is not our friend formerly at Taccugama but the resemblance is striking.  In the meantime my fear is that some mad gunman may one day be tempted to shoot him. Baal, I am on the road again on a short trip to Kenema and will contact you on my return. However if you read this article before then, please contact me on 076/077 601015. I lost your telephone number among others when some cursed person robbed me of my double-sim mobile phone in the House of God.

The minister of energy and water resources and the management of NPA must be congratulated for the minister’s recent announcement that Bumbuna was again on course. He assured us Salone people of “constant, clean and uninterrupted” electricity. It’s a laugh Prof. just ask the consumers.
