Bar Association storms Makeni

This last weekend, the Sierra Leone Bar Association, according to reports reaching Sierra Express Media, flocked into Makeni, the Northern Headquarter town to attend their Annual General retreat.

According to the President of the Bar Association Joseph F. Kamara, this is the very first time that the Bar Association is holding its annual congregation out of the capital, Freetown. Mr. Kamara said the reason behind the decision is geared towards the fact that the association has adopted the policy of getting close to the people and would therefore have to be making such moves from now onwards.

Explaining the method used to arrive at the decision, the President revealed that there was a ballot among lawyers to choose between Makeni, Bo and Kono and that Makeni came out as the popular meeting ground this time around, hoping that subsequent meeting will be dedicated to other cities.

The two day meeting was held at the Wusum Conference Hall in Makeni with the theme “Access to Justice: A time to take the lead and bridge the Gap in Gender Equality, Human Rights and Freedom of Information.”
