4 Injured in Koidu Violence
A violent clash between young people mining at the controversial No. 11 Tailings and members of the Gbense Indigenous Youth Organization has left about four people severely injured in Kono.Â
Reports say the fracas ensued after the Gbense Youths denied the other group access to mine at the Tailings.
A member of the Gbense Youth Organization, Aiah Mbayo explained that they only went to the mining site to talk to their counterparts about dangerous mining. He said they were greeted with stones and missiles by the No. 11 boys.Â
The head of the Tankoro Police Division, Chief Superintendent said from Kono at least four people have been arrested in connection with the riot. He said police was on top of the situation.
Meanwhile, some Koidu residents have expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the police handled the matter. They told SEM that the police had not been treating the incident seriously.
