Addressing a news conference at his ‘B’ division office on Monday May 24th 2010, Local Unit Commander, Fayia William Sellu, disclosed that a massive raid has been conducted by his operations officer, ASP Hillary Sao Kanu, resulting to the arrest of 32 suspects who he said have already been charged to court yesterday morning. LUC Sellu noted that the raids were conducted at Old FBC College at Queen Elizabeth Quay, Harbour, lower Savage Square, Wharf road Kanikay slipway, Race Course Cemetery Kissy Road Cemetery Peace Market and Ferry Junction.

According to Sellu the raid is part of the crime prevention strategy as they go on proactive attack on key areas where the said criminals are nested. He highlighted that his division responded to distress calls with the utmost urgency they deserve adding that they per took to special duties like football match, thanks giving, eviction and demolition exercise.  CSP Sellu narrated that ASP Hillary Sao Kanu is the first, female operation officer in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP). She has barely served two weeks at Ross Road Police Station underlining that she has toured the entire division at Ross Road police station and has conducted two major raids at ghettos.

ASP Hillary Sao Kanu was enlisted into the SLP on July 7th 1992 and her first posting was at the Eastern Police Station high branch as investigator, after six months she was posted at the special branch (SB) in 1993 and served at the SB for 19 years as surveillance officer, after she had completed her Higher Teacher’s Certificate (HTC).

She was moved to police training school (PTS) as a Trainer in various aspect. Because of her outstanding performances she was fortunate to attend several in-service courses nationally and internationally which includes a senior management course which is the first leadership course sponsored by DFID. She was later earmarked to head as Director of Media in 2006. in 2008 to 2009 she was sent to Darfur to work as a United Nation Police Peace Keeper their she worked at one of the largest International Displace Person’s Camp in the world in Darfur Sudan for one year and later posted at Elfashia the Head Quarters of UNAMID as the officer in charge (OIC) Gender, Family and child protection unit for sector North. She returned home with flying colours after 18 months meritous service to the UN and was posted to Tombo Police Station as Officer Commanding O/C Tombo police station where she served for 8 months and then transferred to Ross Road Police Station as operations officer where she is doing extremely well.
