APC reformist disowns peace initiative
The litigant in the High Court matter against the leadership of the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party has disowned latest moves by the leadership of the party to purportedly give peace a chance for a united front to enhance the chances of victory for the party in the forthcoming local and general elections in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Responding to the outcome of a meeting of the leadership and six former presidential candidates dubbed the BIG 6 and key party stakeholders held Makeni on Tuesday 25th May 2021, Alfred Peter Conteh said he was averse to the said meeting and the content of the Press Release issued thereafter, stating that the leadership lacked legitimacy to do anything on behalf of the APC.
“I do not acknowledge the meeting and I am not privy to its mechanism and have zero respect for the BIG 6”, he told Sierra Express Media.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the party has informed its membership that they had agreed on a strategy for healing the wounds within the party.
“The leadership of the APC wishes to inform the general public that the party has now agreed on a roadmap for peace, reconciliation and healing in our Party”, adding that tangible steps and actions have been lined up to be taken within weeks in the spirit of a united party.
The leadership appealed “to all members and well-wishers to uphold the decisions reached in Makeni and to ensure that peace and tranquility prevail in our beloved Party”, the release stated.
