Water Catchment Encroachers hinder water supply
The Minister of Water and Marine Resources has said during the Thursday Government press briefing at the ministry of information that encroachers had caused the drying up of water catchment areas resulting water scarcity in the city.
He made this statement whiles addressing journalists ahead of the international water day with the theme “value for water”. He continued that the encroachment had destroyed the vegetation supply of most dams in the city including the one that is supplying Fourah Bay College, hosting over two thousands students.
He continued that the scale of encroachment going on at the number two river is alarming, noting that trees were being felled for construction of houses, which was disturbing the irrigation and also affecting climate change which results to low rainfall.
