EPA Highlights Responsibility

Assistant Head of Department, Information, Education and Communication Department, Environment Protection Agency [EPA-SL], Fatmata Bakarr Sesay has highlighted that the agency established in 2008 as amended in 2018 and continued that their vision is to be a vibrant environmental management agency at the core of sustainably developing middle level income in Sierra Leone and fulfilling its international environmental obligations.

She made the presentation at a two day training program for forty [40] health reporters and columnists, drawn participants from East, South and part of Western Area with support from Radese under the Directorate of Health Security and Emergency [DHSE] at the Bishop Gbondor Resource Centre, Damballa Road, Bo City on 17th and 18th May 2019.

She described an environmental emergency as a sudden disaster or actions resulting from natural or human induce factors such as, deforestation, mining and encroachment into protected areas, bush burning, and air pollution among others. She highlighted causes of environmental emergencies which she said include, wild fire, landslide, flood, air pollution and stressed that human activities are the main cause of natural environmental disaster.
