Chinese Open Pathological Platform in Sierra Leone
The Chinese Government to Sierra Leone has officially opened the Remote Pathological Platform and donated medical supplies at the China/Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital, Jui in the Western Rural District on January 15th, 2019.
The program was organized by Health Commission on Hunan Province Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, the 20th batch of China (Hunan) Medical Team, Hunan Cancer Hospital and sponsored by the National Health Commission of Peoples Republic of China in the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Delivering statement, the Minister of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), Dr. Alpha Wurie said he was happy that the occasion was opened with both the national anthems of China and that of Sierra Leone and described the singing of both anthems as “a clear map of collaboration and friendship between the two countries”.
He explained that the request to construct the hospital was made by the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) to the Peoples Republic of China “this is a Sierra Leone hospital”, he thrilled audience adding that the health facility should not only be the base as a teaching hospital in Sierra Leone but, it would also be the core teaching hospital by the next few years.
He intimated that, the hospital will also serve as major diagnostic centre for Cancer. He lauded management for the hospital to remain functional. “China supported us to be free in terms of our health status”, he told listeners and discussed that the advent of Ebola suggested that we have long way to go in terms of fighting infectious diseases. He discussed that as a nation, we have been able to detect the Magbourgh Virus and he described the Pathological Platform as the first major platform for medicine in Sierra Leone.
He highlighted that Cancer is on the increase in the country but expressed gratitude that with the advent of the pathological platform, we shall be able to perform Cancer test as a nation. “Sierra Leone should be in a position to do major diagnostic of diseases”, he said and assured that they would turn the sod this year for the construction of Radiotherapy and continued that “we are at a rudimentary stages”.
Dr. Wurie pointed out that “we have institutional base to transform lives of our people and stressed that China have been pivotal in that direction” and concluded that the Pathological Platform would be used for its intended purpose.
In his statement, the Ambassador of Chinese, HE Mr. Wu Peng emphasized on the aim of the Chinese Government to donate more medical equipment and spoke on the need to come together to improve the services of the hospital. “This will help doctors to diagnose patients and carry out cleaning”, he told participants adding that the hospital would standardized treatment to patients.
The Vice President of Hunan Cancer Hospital who introduced the project also made meaningful statement before all guests visited the pathology department followed by group photographs and media interview.
The Pathological Department was established with the assistance and donation of the Chinese Government. The staffs are trained and the remote pathological diagnosis is undertaken by Human Cancer Hospital.
Pathology is the subject of independent disease diagnosis through the application of multiple disciplines and knowledge methods with organs, tissues, cells or body fluids obtained from patients, including autopsy, surgical pathology and cytology. Its studies and clarifies the etiology, pathogenesis development and outcome of diseases and provide a reliable basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
