55 Pupils Receive Le22 M Tacugama Sanctuary Gifts

The Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary (TCS) on Tuesday 20th November 2018 donated scholarships, bags, shoes and uniforms to 55 pupils in four primary schools (Rural Education Committee, Church of Christ, Sio Elementary and God’s Army Primary Schools) all in Regent Village. The presentations, estimated at over Le22 million, were made at the various schools in the presence of teachers, parents and other stakeholders.

The sanctuary’s Communications and Education Officer, Ethel Sillah informed parents and beneficiaries that after the devastating landslide and flooding disaster at Regent in August last year they came to the aid of some of the pupils who were affected by the disaster as well as the orphans, that they also thought it fit to do more this year and promised that the gesture would continue.

She furthered that last year when the disaster occurred some of the pupils received scholarships while others were promised school materials like uniforms, bags and shoes that were now been presented.

Some of the schools received 5, 13 and 25 scholarships respectively.

Ethel Sillah also admonished the pupils to be studious and disciplined reiterating that the scholarships are to ensure that they study hard and not drop out of school to become productive citizens in society as well as protect the environment to prevent another natural disaster in the community.

The donation is part of the sanctuary’s environmental education program in schools located around the sanctuary.

Teachers in the four primary schools as well as parents of the beneficiaries and other stakeholders attended the presentation ceremony.

At the Sio Elementary School, the vote of thanks was rendered by a parent who commended the sanctuary for its numerous invaluable support to the community over the years and hoped that the gesture would continue.
