Isha Georgina Bangura (in photo), the 2017 AYV Miss University winner and former student at the History and Sociology Department at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, has stated that she is Contesting for the Miss West Africa Sierra Leone Competition because she wanted to use it as a platform to market the country’s tourism potentials abroad and influence investment which will help to improve the economy and provide jobs for young people.
The 23 years old beauty queen also stated that she will use the Miss West Africa platform to raise awareness against Cyber bullying and advocate to government to initiate and implement laws that will mitigate or abolish Cyber-crimes in the country.
” Most Young people in Sierra Leone find pleasure in defaming other’s publicly especially people that are successful through the social media, this is not good for the country’s image, I will engage Government to initiate a law or establish a Commission that will regulate Social media accounts and also engage young people on how to positively use the new media” She stated
Isha, who was born in Kamakwie in the northern Kerene District and attended the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School in Freetown, said she drew inspiration to speak on this topic because she was a victim of Cyber bullying. She promised to work relentlessly to achieve her objectives if she emerges winner.
“I don’t see pageant as a fighting show. I see it as a platform where we all can work together in the interest of the country.
On that note, I will mobilize all the other contestants to work with me and also partner with local and international organizations to achieve our goals,” she stated.
