KAN Set For NACDA 2018

One of the leading child advocacy organizations in the country, Kids Advocacy Network (KAN) is all set to organize the eleventh Annual National Child Development Awards (NaCDA). The event slated for 19 October 2018 at the British Council Auditorium will be held on the theme: Achieving the Free and Quality Education in Sierra Leone, Our Collective effort. The keynote speaker will be His Excellency, Brigadier (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio.

Alhaji S Conteh, the communications manager of KAN, explained that the awards is an initiative of KAN designed to appreciate, recognize and celebrate individuals and institutions that are contributing to the development of Sierra Leone. He added that the initiative also seeks to inspire other individuals and institutions to follow the footsteps of the awards recipients.

Conteh further noted that the awards also aim at celebrating students and pupils who top the various public exams.

According to the KAN spokesperson, the award committee received over 500 nominations from the public and carefully shortlisted individuals and institutions with exceptional quality for public voting. He noted that the public have voted and the organizing committee will contact the winners early next week.

*Deputy Country Director One Family People, Madam Haddiatou Diallo,* who was an award recipient for NaCDA 2017, stated that NaCDA is one of the credible awards in the country, because it is based on merit and popular vote.

*Mr. Geoff Wiffin, the Former Country Representative of UNICEF,* who was the Keynote Speaker for NaCDA 2016, commended Kids Advocacy Network for organizing the annual awards which he noted always “inspires us to do more work.”

“I studied very hard this academic year to come out with flying colors. I don’t want to let KAN down because they awarded me last year for my performance at the National Primary School Examination,” said *Ibrahim  Sesay, a JSS2 Pupil of the Sierra Leone Grammar School, who topped the 2017 NPSE.
