We will revitalize oil and gas exploration says Petroleum Director General
The Director General of Petroleum Directorate (PD), Timothy Kabba has vowed to revitalized oil and gas exploration in Sierra Leone by initiating activities which will introduce robust revenue generation for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 with the support of the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Sierra Leone Investment & Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MFAIC) for the benefit of Sierra Leone.
He made this declaration during the National Bilateral Budget Discussion for the Fiscal Year 2019 at the Sierra Leone Bank Complex, Kingtom in Freetown on the 22nd September 2018.
In his presentation, the DG said the vision of the Petroleum Directorate is to become a high-reliability, functionally independent and mission-oriented regulatory agency in Sierra Leone and that the mission of the agency is to facilitate the optimal exploration and production of Sierra Leone’s petroleum resources for the long term benefit of its people -present and future generations .
Mr .Kabba continued that, the Petroleum Directorate is intending to accomplish many projects through the development of regulatory guidelines and Monitoring compliance with due regard to the economy, the environment,security,technology as well as balancing the interest of the nation and that of investors.
He said, that is why the agency has been transform with well structure management team ranging from himself ,the Director General, Director of Finance, Administration / Human Resource Department, Technical Department ,Legal Department, Information Technology Department among other divisions all in a bid to achieve key deliverables for the FY 2019 .
“We will revitalize Oil and Gas exploration with updated list of valid Oil and Gas licenses, Indicators, Number of Oil and Gas corporations in –country”, DG maintained. He said the PD will be participating in at least two international road show events to showcase Sierra Leone’s Oil and Gas potential adding they will also engaged local and international media for promoting the resource potential with emphasis on TV and Radio talk shows.
The DG further emphasized on the creation of fresh and consolidation of existing partnerships for generating and renewing investor’s interests in Sierra Leone which he said will include technical partners, other investment promotion agencies such as SLIEPA, MFAIC and MOF.
He disclosed that, the PD has already expanded the Scope of Oil and Gas Exploration activities to incorporate Onshore activities adding they have mobilize consensus at state actor level –culminating in proposal for cabinet endorsement whilst embarking on also extensive stakeholder consultations with Non State Actors (NSAs) and that the activities of the agency are capital intensive with huge international and local challenges.
He appealed to the government through the Ministry of Finance to approve their budget and vowed to increase revenue generation for the FY 2019.
