The Chairman of  55 Lumpa Petty Traders Market Association at the 55 Lorry Park, Abu Bakarr Gbla aka Abu-White has on Wednesday, 22nd August 2018, called on the intervention of Local Unit Commander (LUC), Waterloo Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police, Micheal Ambrose Sovula  to address the alarming  increase of Commercial Sex Workers and hooligans at the Waterloo ‘’Five Five’’ Lorry Park.

According to the Chairman, commercial sex workers have already taking over the lorry park because of weak laws enforcement by authorities’ concerned noting that the park was created for drivers and traders in order to carry out  economic activities.

He says the LUC has assured 55 Lorry Park Market People that, after the introduction of the ‘Operation Vacate the High way ‘at the Tombo Park Junction, which is aimed at restructuring business communities from road safety crashes to promote Road Safety Management.

“With the implementation of ‘Operation Vacate the High Way’ which was introduced by the Waterloo Police Division will continue to help greatly in reforming the park “, Abu-White noted.

The Able Chairman went further to update the public on their cordial relationship between the SLP, Drivers Union and other stakeholders for continuous engagement process.

He says the responsibility of controlling the park has been a big challenge at the moment since the inception of the new administration due to the fact that, drivers are no longer observing the rules and regulations governing the park adding that the Lorry Park is left empty during the day with few vehicles which he said has affected their economic activities greatly.

Mr. Gbla disclosed that there is frequent and increasing violent behavior by young people on a daily basis in the market, which he described as unfortunate situation and that the general welfare of Traders has been threatened.

He extends praises to the government under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, especially to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio for launching the Free and Quality Education Scheme for Primary and Secondary Students.

He concluded by appealing to the LUC of the Waterloo Police Division to act swiftly in order to curb the menace affecting the park currently.
